BIO
Chang is a Senior Engineer at the Advanced Biofuels and Bioproducts Process Development Unit (ABPDU), where he leads projects in fermentation, catalysis, and analytical laboratories, collaborating with cross-functional teams to support technology scale-up and commercialization. He works closely with industrial partners to accelerate the market adoption of emerging biotechnologies. His expertise includes bioprocess development and optimization and data-driven process analytics. In addition to his technical expertise, he leads efforts in project management and business development, currently serving as the principal investigator (PI) and project lead for multiple industrial collaborations and research initiatives.
Before joining ABPDU, Chang was a postdoctoral scholar at North Carolina State University, where he focused on the process economics of value-added biobased products. He holds a Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering and an M.S. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Washington. He earned a B.S. in Bioengineering from Nanjing Tech University.
Chang is an active member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and currently serves as Chair-elect/Vice Chair of the AIChE Northern California Local Section.
In 2023, he was recognized with the AIChE 35 Under 35 Award for leadership, an honor presented every three years to celebrate outstanding early-career professionals in the world's largest chemical engineering community.
