BIO
My research in this laboratory is centered on developing advanced models to understand and predict the complex interactions of thermal, hydraulic, and mechanical processes in bentonite, a key barrier material used in deep geological repositories for nuclear waste disposal. Over time, these repositories are subject to a range of interconnected thermo-hydro-chemo-mechanical processes that can potentially impair the sealing capabilities of both bentonite and the surrounding natural rock formations. This degradation could result in the leakage of radioactive nuclides into the environment. By focusing on coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical modeling, my work aims to simulate the evolving multiphysical processes within bentonite, providing a vital numerical tool for assessing the long-term performance and safety of deep geological repositories.
