BIO
Dr. Tong Zhou is the Head of the Berkeley Advanced Laser Group, and a Staff Scientist in the Accelerator Technology and Applied Physics Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His research interests include fiber lasers, ultrafast lasers, coherent laser combining, nonlinear optics, and laser manipulation.
Zhou received a BS and an MS in Electrical Engineering from Peking University, Beijing, in 2007 and 2010 respectively, and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 2015. His PhD study was in Optics and Photonics at the Gérard Mourou Center for Ultrafast Optical Science, University of Michigan. In 2020, Zhou received the Early Career Research Award from the U.S. Department of Energy, on developing high energy ultrafast fiber lasers to drive next generation plasma accelerators.
The Berkeley Advanced Laser Group develops innovative lasers that combine high peak and average powers to advance particle accelerators and to enable broad applications in science, industry, medicine, and defense.
