Neslihan Taş is an environmental microbial ecologist and biogeochemist, group leader, and Staff Scientist in the Earth & Environmental Sciences Area of Berkeley Lab. Dr. Taş studies microbial transformation of natural and anthropogenic carbon and elements in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. She received her Ph.D. and MSc from Wageningen University in the Netherlands. Dr. Taş’s current research projects span from studying soil microbial functions in the Arctic to the fate of terrestrial carbon in aquatic ecosystems. Dr. Taş’s expertise lies in the applications of multi-omic technologies and high resolution infrared imaging (IR) spectroscopy to understand microbial function in the environment.

Dr. Taş currently serves as the Laboratory Lead PI in the multi-institutional DOE project NGEE Arctic, editorial board member in FEMS Microbial Ecology, and associate editor in Arctic, Antarctic, and Alpine Research. Dr. Taş is the chair of the LBNL Safety Advisory Comitee (SAC) and member of Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC).
