I am currently a retiree affliate and a theoretical physicist in the area of high-energy particle and nuclear physics. I had my undergraduate education in Shandong University (1978-1982) and did my graduate study with a MS degree in Institute of High-energy Physics in Beijing, China (1982-1985). After receiving my PhD from University of Oregon (1989), I did my postdoctoral research at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) (1989-1991) and Duke University (1991-1992)  before returning to LBNL as a Divisional Fellow in Nuclear Science Division (1992). I was a senior scientist at LBNL (1997-2024)  until I retired from the position.  I was also a Changjiang Visiting Professor in Shandong University (2000-2004) and 1000-plan Chair Professor (2012-2017) and Boya Chair Professor (2017-2020) at Central China Normal University (CCNU). I was the former head of the Nuclear Theory Program at LBNL (1999-2008) and director of the Institute of Particle Physics at CCNU (2012-2020). I was the manager and co-spokesperson of the JET Collaboration funded by the Department of Energy (2010-2015). I become again a Boya Chair Professor at CCNU since my retirement from LBNL (2024). I was elected to the Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2012 and received the Humboldt Research Award in 2024
